Happy October Everyone. Only 2 Sleeps to the AWESOME Festival

Perth will be buzzing with the AWESOME International Arts Festival for Bright Young Things  from October 3 -16.

Lots of interest, including Dame Lynley Dodd, prolific children's author and illustrator, best known for the Hairy Maclary books. She's opening the Lynley Dodd Story Exhibition at the State Library of WA, and also doing a free Q&A for teachers on October 7th at 11am in the Library.

Hooray for HIPPO in 2016

Some teachers are so organised they're already booking productions for 2016.

Here's one that should be of interest to teachers of Kinder to Year 2 - a Music Theatre adaptation of  the series beginning "There's A Hippopotamus On The Roof Eating Cake" from the excellent production house - Garry Ginivan Attractions. Called HIPPO! HIPPO! - The Musical, bookings are already open in Adelaide and Melbourne. Get in quick, this one is going to sell fast.

SFS Subscriber Giveaway - Tix to 1984

Congrats to Angie Bedford who got in first for our giveaway. She chose to see 1984 in the Melbourne Festival (who wouldn't??). Thanks heaps to the Melbourne Festival for the tickets. Our giveaways are unusual in that the winner choses what they'd like to see from the huge array on Shows For Schools. Our presenters are generally happy to oblige.

Motivating children without reward or punishment

Came across this interesting article saying that the ideal is to motivate children intrinsically rather than by reward or punishment ( extrinisically). Essentially it's about giving children (people) some control which leads to feeling happy.

Apparently happy people are more likely to behave. There are a few strategies suggested, too. Have a read here

Talented Vic Music Students Need Apply

Applications for the Margaret Schofield Memorial Scholarship are up on the Victorian College of the Arts  website. The scholarships are for students from Government schools who gain places to study Music at tertiary level at the VCAA.  There are two scholarships ($5000 each), one for students wishing to continue Performance studies and the other for those intent on following a Composition pathway. The deadline for applications is Friday 6 November.

Win $500+ for your school

Just enter Sing For Good and help charity at the same time. 

You can enter as a school with a group (more than two) of students, a group of staff. You can even submit a song you have already filmed!! There is $20,000 in CASH prizes for schools. It's a national competition, people vote for your entry and that's how you win. So upload something soon! Winners announced 3 November.
